Purpose

Finished drawing for the south front of the house, 1764, unexecuted (1)

Notes

This unexecuted design for the south front of Kenwood includes a new library wing to the east, and was produced by Robert Adam in 1764 to correspond with his brother James's unexecuted designs for the interior of the library (Adam volumes 43/3-4, 11/110-111). However, it is more reminiscent of the north front of Kenwood than the executed south front - designed by Robert Adam in 1767 - as it does not include the attic storey which was added to accommodate Lord Mansfield's nieces (see scheme notes).
