Notes
These two drawings are a revision of an initial proposal known from a sketch design in the British Museum dated 5 December 1710 (HKW, V, pp. 174-5; Thurley, 2003, pp. 217-18). All three drawings are in the hand of William Dickinson. Work began on the reredos and altar surround in February 1711, following the Lord Chamberlain's authorisation to Wren on 31 January 'to Give Orders for fitting up Her Majesty's Chappel at Hamton Court with all convenient Speed according to the Design you prepared, and which Her Majesty has been pleased approve of'.
