This capriccio is part of a small group of pen and wash drawings by Robert Adam(see Adam vol.55/1-8) that show largely domed buildings in either elevation or perspective. The composion in this drawing is expanded in the larger scheme shown in Adam vol.55/7. The flanking elevations have been savagely trimmed off when the drawing was mounted in the volume. The inscription and the numerals are probably in the hand of William Adam (see also Adam vol.55/2-5).
