The composition here is a development of the sketch plan in Adam vol.9/4. It also illustrates Robert Adam's use of a new drawing technique using grey wash and pen, although the pen drawing here may have been set out over pencil. Other examples of this technique are found in Adam vol.9/26 and 27.
