Notes
This is a copy by Robert Adam of a print by Jean-Baptiste-Claude Chatelain (c.1710-c.1771), published in 1742 by Knapton and Pond, a collection of whose landscape prints was in the library at Blair Adam (see Tait Robert Adam: drawings and imagination (Cambridge, 1993), p.10). Chatelain's engraving was after 'Batelier sous l'Orage' by Gaspard Dughet (1615-1675), which was then in the collection of Dr Bragge (see Marie-Nicole Boisclair Gaspard Dughet (Paris, 1986), pp.296, 349).For drawings that may be attributed to Chatelain, see Adam vol.56/27 and 56/28; for another copy after Dughet see Adam vol.56/12.
