Notes
This drawing by Robert Adam is similar in its use of colour to Adam vol.56/5; in compositional terms, it can be regarded as the Gothic pendant to the classical scene in Adam vol.56/9. The rococo Gothic design is typical of Adam's work of the early 1750s found in the Blair Adam collection (see J. Fleming, Robert Adam and His Circle in Edinburgh & Rome, London, 1962, p.74, pls.23-5).
