The inscription does not seem to bear any relation to the composition on the recto.

This drawing of a group of fragments by Charles-Louis Clérisseau may be compared with the drawing by Robert Adam in Adam vol.57/137; there are similar compositions of fragments in pen and wash, also attributed to Clérisseau in the Clerk Collection, Scotland, for example (Clerk 109).
