Notes
This may be a view of the twelfth-century convent church of S.S.Quattro Coronati near the Lateran, seen from the gardens of the Villa Casali, Rome. The building was restored in 1914, but there is a nineteenth-century illustration of it in R. Krautheimer, Rome, Profile of a City, 312-1308, Princeton, 1980, pl.123. The building in this drawing can be compared with a similar castle or church in Adam vol.57/92. The size of the sheet, the nature of the paper and the style of drawing suggest that this and Adam vol.57/82 and 83 came originally from the same sketchbook.
