Purpose
Preliminary design and record drawing for a ceiling for the library, 1768, as executed (2)
Notes
Bolton describes the ceiling as of 'an early type, having large spreading foliage; it, moreover, exhibits a certain poverty of line in its lay-out'. As the carpet is almost exactly identical, Harris speculates that it was executed by someone other than Adam and 'almost certainly made from a drawing of the finished ceiling'.
