Notes
This view by Robert Adam may be of one of the passageways associated with the Pozzuoli tunnel drawings shown in Adam vol.57/8, 57/9 and 57/10, which show the ruins around the Lago d'Averno. Unlike these, however, this drawing is not inscribed 'Lago' and it may depict the famous Piscina Mirablie at Misenium, see Paoli, Avanzi Delle Antichita Esistenti a Pozzuoli Cuma e Baja, Naples, 1768, pl.LXII. If the latter the view would have been taken from mid-point in the eastern aisle, looking towards the access stairs.
