[1] Preliminary design for a monument, c1763, unexecuted

Aspect

Rough elevation of four variant monuments. The left-hand monument is composed of a small pedimented and domed temple, with an arched open front, and containing a pedestal ornamented with an inscription panel flanked by roundels and festoons, and supporting a strigillated sarcophagus, and a bust. The central monument is composed of a small pedimented and domed temple, supported by a square pedestal with an inscription panel, and containing an urn. The top right-hand monument is composed of a rectangular pedestal containing a relief panel, and an inscription panel, and supporting a pyramid. The bottom right-hand monument is composed of a stepped rectangular pedestal, ornamented with enclosed rosettes and an inscription panel, surmounted by four caryatids, supporting an additional pedestal, ornamented with roundels and festoons, and supporting urns, and set against a pyramid in relief
