Purpose

Alternate designs and record drawings for a chimneypiece for the saloon, 1761 (5)

Notes

These drawings show alternative designs for a chimneypiece for the saloon. There is no presentation drawing corresponding to Adam volume 22/58, as this is the executed scheme and presumably the finished drawing was sent to Buckingham House and has since been lost. This chimneypiece was removed from Buckingham House by King William IV and installed in the Queen's Presence Chamber at Windsor Castle where it remains.

The executed chimneypiece is included in plate 36 of the first volume of the Works of Architecture of Robert and James Adam (1773).
