Preliminary design for a ceiling for the library, c1769-70, unexecuted (1)

Notes

The library is located in Adam's Diocletian wing, and therefore, can only have been designed after 1769. Adam fell out with Shelburne in 1771, and as such, his interiors for the Diocletian wing were executed by a local builder, James White. White's work does not survive, and it is not known whether he followed Adam's designs faithfully.
