Record drawings for the interior decoration of the drawing room, 1783, possibly as executed (3)
Notes
There is very little known about Stratton Park, but it is clear from these drawings that Adam had been employed in 1783 to redecorate the drawing room. The house was demolished in 1959 and there are no surviving photographs of the interior. It is thought, however, that the ceiling in the drawing room was executed in accordance with this design (Adam volume 14/88) as an Adam ceiling of these dimensions was described in the sale particulars of 1910. Moreover, according to King two ceiling fragments with peltoid shields survive and were incorporated into a local house.
It is not possible to date Adam volume 53/48 as it is included in a folio of friezes from projects ranging across the Adam brothers' careers, which appears to have been drawn at one time by a single draughtsman.
