The four lower borders in this drawing are those shown in Adam vol.26/133, and this sheet may be a continuation of that composition, and, like it, derived from the Giovanni Battista Piranesi illustration in Vasi, Candelabri, Cippi, Sarcofagi, etc. (Rome, 1778), as from Hadrian's Villa at Tivoli, Italy. The chalk dimensions on the top left-hand side emphasise the unfinished state of this drawing. There are similar designs among the drawings by Giuseppe Manocchi (c.1731-82) in Adam volumes 15 and 16.
