Notes
This is probably a view of a river town with its fortress that Robert Adam saw during his tours from Rome, Italy in 1756 or on his return journey up the Rhine the following year. It is a companion to the similar topographical view in Adam vol.54/Series 5/5, which carries the same inscription. In a general way its influence can be seen in the castle in Adam vol.54/Series 5/11.
