Notes
This composition is part of a group of mostly ink drawings, Adam vol.55/71-77, executed in a deliberately casual style that may have served as the inspiration for more elaborate watercolours by both Robert Adam and Charles-Louis Clérisseau (1721-1820) that can be seen in volume 56, see Adam vol.56/123, and in this volume in Adam vol.55/67. This drawing may be compared with a similar composition in 55/74, which is unfinished and less elaborate. It is possible that this is a version by Adam of a sketch by Clérisseau, indicative of the collaborative nature of several of the drawings in this group.
