Purpose
Working drawing for chimney-piece in drawing room addition, 27 November 1786 (1)
Notes
The drawing room chimney-piece is a simple design, with a 5-inch wide marble fire-place lining and panelled jambs (or 'pilasters' as Soane's note refers to them). The chimney-piece projects about 5 1/2 inches from the wall line, its sides panelled as well.
The drawing room addition, on the south-west corner of the house, was probably completed in April 1787; Soane's visits to the house are less frequent after April (Journal 1, p.57).
