Purpose

Presentation drawing of the library showing a starfish ceiling on a square plan, 1803 (1)

Notes

The interior of the library (drawing 27) is viewed from the south, near the room's entrance. Unlike later designs, this drawing shows the library with a shallow starfish ceiling. The room is lined with bookshelves and on each wall is a round-headed niche containing a bust. On the right-hand side is a chimney-piece set within an alcove. Bead moulding ornaments the architraves and traces the edges of the room. Arches crossing the room are supported on narrow fluted pilasters.
