[7] Preliminary design for a chair, c1779, as executed
Aspect
Elevation of a chair with turned feet and turned, fluted legs, with capitals containing urns. The seat rail is ornamented by a band of enclosed anthemia and the chair arms are formed with volute scrolls ornamented with acanthus leaves. The base of the seat back is ornamented by a central patera enclosed within a wreath, and this is flanked by socles supporting winged sphinxes. The seat back has a border of fluting, is draped by festoons of husks, and is surmounted by a patera supporting a shell
