Purpose

Preliminary design, design and record drawing for the upper door panel, possibly for the great drawing room, c1779, possibly executed (3)

Notes

These designs for ornamental door panels are shown in the wall-elevations for the great drawing room, (Adam volumes 50/25). Bolton notes surviving painted door panels of an Adam design in the great drawing room, c1917. It is possible that these designs were executed in each of the three drawing rooms as the inscriptions for Adam volumes 24/278-79 suggest they were also executed in the second drawing room. However there are additional designs for door panels (Adam volume 5/7 and 24/265).
