Purpose

Working drawings for a bedroom chimney-piece and (verso) entrance door, February 1787 (1)

Notes

The chimneypiece has linear ornament only. The internal dimensions are 3 feet high by 3 feet 4 inches wide. The fanlight (on verso) corresponds with the design shown on drawing 23 though the door, part-glazed ?, differs from the door shown on drawing 22. Soane's office Day Book 1 has entries from 6 to 8 February 1787 showing both of his then pupils (John Sanders and John McDonnell) drawing and copying designs for a chimney-piece for the bedchambers and the entrance door at Saxlingham.
