Designs for the interior, December 1801 (3)
Notes
This group of drawings, clearly made during the same period, show the design for the Library interior as a vehicle for Soane's collection. The room is divided into two distinct spaces, a square and narrow rectangle that marks the north-south passage from the vestibule. This is most evident in the ceiling, where the main square area has a four-armed 'starfish' ceiling, while the passageway ceiling has decorative mouldings.
