Preliminary designs and designs for a castellated house, 26 July 1794 (6)
Notes
These designs are for an unexecuted cross-shaped house, based on James Adam's unexecuted design for Knockow Castle, Dunbartonshire, of October 1793, for John Buchanan (SM Adam volume 30/35-36). It is more dainty and decorative than Robert Adam's work in the castle style. The drawings were dated by James Adam on 26 July 1794, less than three months before his death.
According to Rowan, David Hamilton's executed designs of 1813 for Lady Mary Lindsay Crawford at Crawford Castle, Fife may be related to these unexecuted designs for Mr Stevenson. Hamilton's knowledge of the output of the late Adam office suggests that he had been a clerk in the Edinburgh office.
