Variant designs for a chimneypiece for a bedroom, 1766, unexecuted (3)
Notes
The intended location of Adam's designs for the Rt Hon. James Stuart Mackenzie is unknown, and none of these designs are known to have been executed. See scheme notes.
The pencil inscription on Adam volume 22/161, Parlor / 2d House / D[urham] Y[ard], suggests that Adam had intended to reuse the design at the Adelphi, as was the case with various other chimneypiece designs of the 1760s. Indeed, a close variant copy of the design was made for the front parlour at 2 Adam Street (Adam volume 24/4), corresponding with the pencil inscription.
