Purpose

Design for a chimneypiece for the first drawing room (now the Piccadilly room), 1774, executed with minor alterations (1)

Notes

A chimneypiece executed to this design for the first drawing room (now the Piccadilly room), survives in situ with minor alterations. Lea notes the addition of swags surrounding the central oval tablet and suggests decorative elements for the stiles may have been omitted on execution. Harris suggests that these features were not omitted but removed at a later date, possibly by Wyatt.
