Purpose

Design for a chimneypiece for the eating room (now the library), 1774, as executed (1)

Notes

This chimneypiece designed for the eating room (now the library) survives in situ and adheres closely to the design. Harris notes that this piece bears close resemblance to a design by Piranesi for the 9th Earl of Exeter for Burghley House, published in his book on chimneypieces Diverse maniere d’adornare I cammini (1769).
