Purpose
Finished drawing for a counterpane for the state bed, 1776, executed with minor alterations (1)
Notes
The counterpane was executed with very minor ornamental alterations to Adam's design, and survives at Osterley. The valance to the counterpane is ornamented with the Child family crest of an eagle holding an adder in its beak, alternating with poppy heads, sometimes called marigolds, which are all worked in silver thread.
