Purpose

Finished drawing for a chimneypiece for the saloon, 1772, as executed (1)

Notes

The chimneypiece in the saloon was executed in accordance with Adam’s design by John Devall. It was installed in 1774, and survives in situ. Stillman has noted that the stiles have capitals adapted from the peristyle at Spalatro, but with more foliate detail than is typical.
