Purpose
Finished drawing for the apse head in the saloon, c1770, executed with alterations (1)
Notes
The apse on the eastern wall of the saloon leads into a small oval lobby, which in turn connects with the top hall beyond. The apse head was executed in accordance with Adam’s design, and survives in situ. The apse was originally screened by two columns, but these were removed and the room repainted for Charles Winn in 1822-24. The columns and original colour scheme have since been renovated by the National Trust.
