The Gothic library was built under the main library that was part of the piano nobile (or raised ground floor). This new library was linked (at the same level) to an ante room from which arises a top-lit staircase giving access to the library above and upwards to the rest of the house. The drawings for the stairs are labelled from A-B to I-K though this is misleading since G-H and I-K are the same. A-B rises from the lobby in a generous curve, C-D and E-F have short runs while G-H has two flights
