Purpose
Unfinished design and record drawing for a chimneypiece for the front drawing room, 1769, as executed (2)
Notes
The front drawing room chimneypiece was executed in accordance with Adam's design. It was removed from the house prior to demolition, and sold for £34.13.0, but is now lost.
The pencil inscription on drawing 6, D:Y. / Body of Building / Front Drawing R[oom], suggests that Adam had intended to reuse the design at the Adelphi, as was the case with various other chimneypiece designs of the 1760s. In this case it was clearly intended for the front drawing room in one of the houses on the Royal Terrace. Indeed, a variant of the design was made for the front drawing room in 8 Royal Terrace (Adam volume 24/40), corresponding with the pencil inscription.
