Purpose

Finished drawing for a gateway, executed with alterations, 30 March 1785, unexecuted (1)

Notes

The purpose of this gateway was to enclose the forecourt of Cumberland House, and to screen the house from Pall Mall. It was executed in 1785-86 to an alternative design, although the executed scheme is close enough to this design to warrant its attribution to Adam.
