All of the basement plans show the extension added to the right-hand (west) side. The room labels vary so that the extension some times houses rooms for the butler and housekeeper or a kitchen or a laundry. Eventually, a single storey kitchen and scullery etc was added on to the full-storey western extension (see drawings [26],[53], [54], [56]).
