[191] Ashburnham arms (gules, a fesse between six mullets, argent) with the crest (out of an earl's coronet or, an ash tree purpure) cut off, with two greyhound supporters (sable, collared and chained or) and motto LE ROY ET L'ESTATE

Notes
Dance seems to have enjoyed drawing out heraldry and rendered the greyhound supporters of the Ashburnham arms with relish.
Bernasconi's bill for 1816 (the day work dated 31 December 1815 to 20 April 1816) includes '1 Earl Coronet 20In [by] 20In [by] 17In high' costing £8.0.0., '2 Crests consisting of a Ducal Coronet / & Tree on Shield together 18In [by] 15In cost 70s [£3.50] each, '13 Letters each 4In high work'd on a / Ground Viz: LE'RO'Y'ET'ESTAT' at 3s6d each and '1 Comma' costing 1s (ASH 2838).
Farington (8 July 1806) related a story told about the Ashburnham crest: 'It seems the Crest of Lord St.Asaph [later Ashburnham] resembles that of Lord Abercorn which He does not like that any other shoud do. - Passing through Berkeley Square with Sir.G.[ Beaumont] Lord St Asaph's carriage passed by, on which Lord Abercorn said - "St Asaph's Crest grows more like mine every Day, - Yah, - pugh" - spitting out.'
