Notes
The porte-cochere is quite similar to [SM D2/1/4] and [SM D2/1/10] except that the coat of arms is now above the parapet and has been replaced on the entrance by an earl's coronet and an ornate Venetian or Grecian (or Indian) crenellation rises above the lintel, and also above the five centre bays of the south front. Six turrets front the south elevation (spaced T3 T2 T5 T2 T3 T), two of them re-drawn with polygonal, lantern-like pinnacles of pierced stone. The front is now finished by a parapet emphasised by mouldings and urns. Windows have labels and balconies with continuous pierced balustrades have been pencilled in. See [SM D2/5/40] verso for a rough detail of the Venetian crenellation.
