Notes

Identified by Ashby, this moulding runs around the ninth-century apse of Santa Maria in Domnica. The accompanying caption gives the church’s alternative name of Santa Maria in Navicella, which goes back at least as far as the early sixteenth century and refers to the sculpture of an ancient Roman ship located in front of the building (Hülsen 1927, p. 332). The moulding is distinctive in having a corona with an apophyge at the top.
