Purpose
Preliminary design, design, and record drawing for a gateway, c1775-79, unexecuted (3)
Notes
Although neither was executed, the gateway and boathouse designs are clearly comparable, and apparently designed as a matching pair. This design was intended for the western entrance to the park, and a gateway was built in this location in 1799-1801 by William Daniel Legg (1743-1806), in the neo-Jacobean style, for the 1st Marquess of Exeter.
