It is interesting to compare this full-size detail with another for the Doric order in the hall at Ashburnham Place ([SM D2/2/21]). The Stratton Doric capital is about 25 per cent larger, and while its groove and the chamfer either side are drawn the same width as the fillet so that recession and flat surface are equal, the Ashburnham fillet is wider than the four pen lines of the fillet and chamfered edges and thus the rhythm differs.
The capital was probably derived from plate II, chapter I of J. Stuart & N. Revett, Antiquities of Athens, volume I, 1762.
