Notes
Several sets of detail drawings for the 'finishing' would have been made for tendering by various tradesmen. Soane's office 'Day book 1791' has an entry under Norwich Castle for 2 May: 'copying working drawgs / of Ironwork &c' Chawner' and 'Wiliams / Blogg'. Another entry for 3 May 1791 has: 'Norwich Castle / Chawner / Blogg / Meyer / Williams ... drawing the workg drawgs / which are this day sent'. Thomas Chawner (1774-1851, pupil 1789-1796) and Frederick Meyer (1777-?, pupil 1791-9) were pupils, William Blogg (1761-?) an improver who was employed in the office for just four months and Williams may have been Richard Williams a clerk from 1789 to 1803.
It would have been important to the Norwich City Corporation to know the costs for the project and the finishing - because of the scale of the works - would have been extensive. See general note for costs.
