Notes

Soane's office 'Journal No 1' has an entry for 16 July 1789: '5 Drawings. Descriptions / of the work sent to Mr Patteson / for the Tradesmen to examine and estimate'.

By 7 August Soane had 'Sent Mr Finch, Bricklayers & Carp:[enters] / Prices &c for their Agreement / to be made'. This drawing, SM 73/3/29, SM 73/3/32, SM 73/3/31, SM 73/3/22 and SM 73/3/25 represent three of the five drawings sent for estimates. This drawing, SM 73/3/29 and SM 73/3/32 are very worn and were probably used on site.

The 'Mr Patteson' mentioned in the office 'Journal No 1' above probably refers to John Patteson, a fellow Grand Tourist, a great supporter of Soane, and a resident of Norwich for whom Soane designed additions, including chimney-pieces, to his house in Surrey Street, 1790 (see D.Stroud, Sir John Soane architect, 2nd ed., 1996, p.146).

See SM 73/3/1 for a related specification.
