Purpose
Variant finished drawings for a viaduct and ruined arch, 1780, executed to a variant design (2)
Notes
The viaduct was completed around 1787 and executed to a variant design, almost twice the length as the one proposed in these two drawings. The executed viaduct was sinuous rather than straight and incorporated an icehouse and screen wall, in a completely ruinous style. There are additional drawings in the National Trust for Scotland collection dated 28th March 1780, just four days after these drawings (as opposed to the suggested date of 1789) (Haynes, pp. 29-31). The National Trust designs also include a plan of the bridge.
