Purpose
Design for an entrance screen for the 6th Earl of Findlater, 1767, executed to a variant design (1)
Notes
The executed entrance screen differs slightly from this design, with a festooned frieze in the central entablature, which is repeated in the flanking pedestals for the lamps. The lamps were either not executed or have since been removed. The trophies were omitted and replaced with a rampant lion, and a coronet has been added to the pediment. The panelled doors were also omitted and replaced with iron gates to match the central gateway. The screen has since been extended but has remained sympathetic to the original design (King, p. 330).
