Notes
A Vitruvian scroll cresting was used for the London gate, Stratton Park, c.1807 though with a palmette in the centre instead of a shield and crest as in this unexecuted design for Coleorton. Its use at Stratton is associated with the Indian character of the gate. For a discussion of Dance's use of Indian elements see the note on the Guildhall, London.
