The principal stair (on the central axis and with a stretched semicircular plan) returns over the entrance, rising to the first floor gallery. Kalman (p.167) points out that the same idea appears in 'two early villas by Soane: Letton Hall, Norfolk (1783), and Tendring Hall, Suffolk (1784-6'.
