The railing is quite elaborate with curved X (or diaper) uprights with rosettes at the join, and a landing panel on lion feet, with acanthus and Vitruvian scroll motifs. A yellow wash suggests that all the metalwork was to be gilded. Stroud (p.211) comments 'the only recognisable feature remaining [after the remodelling of about 1900] is a small section of iron railings to the third floor landing, with diapered balustrading corresponding to one of his drawings'.
