Notes

The ceiling is divided into three compartments and has a deep cove with panels for paintings and bas-reliefs; in between the panels are seated naked figures in the style of Michaelangelo holding festoons. The wall elevation has pilasters with Corinthian capitals and more painted and bas-relief panels as well as eight niches for Antique statues and six pedestals for busts. In the centre is a chimney-piece with the fragments from Hadrian's Villa that was incorporated in Dance's executed scheme.

The opposite (window) elevation is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, Prints & Drawings Department, 9081.
