Purpose

Preliminary design for the drawing room, as executed, 1761 (1)

Notes

The drawing room is in the east corner of the house, on the ground floor, between the hall and the library. Sadly, these wall elevations do not show John Linnell's curtain cornices, pier glasses and segmental side tables (now in the Rijksmuseum), or the executed frieze, which according to Lees-Milne was inspired by Robert Wood's rendering of the Temple of the Sun.
