It is not know who was the 'Atkinson' referred to here. The drawing may have been made on a partly used office timesheet since From the and Carp[enter] are also inscribed on the verso.
The design for the raised seating is an early idea that did not allow sufficient headroom to the stair from the basement; more complex designs were to follow.
