Purpose
Record drawing for a ceiling for the dining room, 1770, unexecuted (1)
Notes
The dining room was one of two rooms at Northumberland House for which Adam made interior decorative designs (see scheme notes).
Adam’s drawing for the ceiling of this room is inscribed as ‘not executed’. Harris has suggested that Adam’s interior for the room was abandoned owing to a lack of time rather than money, while King has suggested that a variant of the design was installed and presumably destroyed on demolition in 1874. The facts of this matter are not clear.
